How to Be an Excellent Team Player in A High Energy Environment

Let’s face it – just about every job involves a high-energy environment.

For some people, their job might be busy during certain times or the week, month or year. For others, work is a regular, high-energy grind.

Regardless of the nature of your job, it’s always good to be a strong team player. Consider the following ways to flex your teamwork skills and achieve great things with your co-workers.

Leverage Your Strengths

Everyone has something valuable to offer a group. Maybe you like to work harder than everyone else. Or maybe you’re good at coming up with more efficient ways of doing things.

Keeping your unique value in mind, try to find a part to play within your team that lets you do what you do best. Leveraging your strengths will help you chip in an important contribution and increase the likelihood of shared success. Also, it’s often a lot easier, and more gratifying, to do things you’re naturally proficient at doing.

Be Dependable

You can be an important focal point in your group simply by following through on what you said you’d do, by the deadline. For some, it’s easy to make grand promises. However, it’s much easier to impress others by always tackling your personal responsibilities.

Being dependable also pertains to a group setting, where you will be counted on to do good work. If your end result is exceptional one day, but subpar the next, you may be seen as not reliable.

Be a Proactive Communicator

If you sit quietly while other people talk about something you think is a bad idea, you might regret not speaking up. If you have an alternate approach that might be better, you should at least discuss it with the group.

The contrary applies too: If your co-workers bring up an actionable item in a meeting in you feel is great a great idea, then say something. People often need and appreciate support, regardless of whether they show it.

When you talk with your co-workers, whether demonstrating support or challenging an idea, it’s crucial to maintain positivity and respect. Although you may strongly disagree with someone, don’t let it get emotional. Stay objective and focused on shared success.

Be Flexible

If you’ve ever worked on a team, you most likely know that things can change rapidly. Team members could join or leave, budgets can be cut, or goals could be changed.

The most effective team players understand how to be flexible. They don’t battle change – instead, they see it being a new chance for growth.

You might find that your team members, the methods you use, and the objectives you began with have all changed when you’ve finished. By keeping versatile, you can benefit from the new opportunities that come up, and you’ll be in a better position to help others.

Your ability to stay comfortable and optimistic in a high energy environment is on your supervisor will probably notice.
