4 Ways Technology Is Changing Your Job Search

Technology has completely altered the recruitment process in recent years, with significant impacts for both job seekers and hiring personnel.

For job seekers, technology has made looking for a new job more transparent and much easier. Job seekers are no longer in the dark when it comes to knowing who works at a company or what it might be like to work there. Also, technology has allowed the job seeker to have more reach, be more effective and look for work through the convenience of their mobile device.

Consider the following ways the technology has changed the way you now look for a new job.

4 Ways Technology Is Changing Your Job Search

#1: Employer reviews

A decade ago, it would have been uncommon to see company reviews from employees and salary information for a business. Today, most people look at company reviews when thinking about a new job, according to surveys. Also, about one-third of Americans and nearly half of Millennials say they have turned down a job offer as a result of bad reviews.

Websites like Glassdoor give you a sense of what the culture and environment is like at any given company. With a bit of study, you can also feel empowered in salary negotiations and figure out if a business is the right fit for you.

#2: LinkedIn

As your online professional presence, a LinkedIn profile can help you attract attention from potential employers around the globe and around the clock. Many hiring managers regularly search the social media platform for their next employee. With a good profile and strong credentials, you can expect hiring managers to contact you over LinkedIn with some regularity.

LinkedIn is also a great networking tool. You can use it to stay in touch with former co-workers and reach out to them when you are looking for a job lead or personal recommendation. You can also grow your professional network just as easily as you might grow your network on Facebook.

#3: International Reach

Before the internet, finding a work in another country required a lot of effort and a company willing to take on the administrative burdens that come with employing a foreign national. However, it’s quite common these days for freelance workers to find clients in other countries and people to apply to jobs overseas.

Even if you aren’t willing to move to Australia or the United Kingdom, the internet allows you to easily look for jobs in other states and cities.

#4: Mobile technology

A mobile phone isn’t just an add-on to many people’s job search efforts. For some job seekers, it’s the primary tool they use to apply to jobs and respond to potential employers. Now, you don’t have to wait until you sit down in front of a desktop to respond to an email from a recruiter or submit a work portfolio.
