How to Search

SMCI’s job search is driven by our own powerful search engine, which stores jobs in a fieldless database:

You may use any keyword, phrase or group of characters that you would like to find in a job. This includes states "CA", cities "Charlotte", skills "HTML", or phrases indicating titles "programmer", "analyst", area codes "310", etc. Simply put any group of characters (keywords) in the search string box separated by spaces.

Popular keywords include:

» Computer languages
» Computer protocols
» Software packages
» Hardware platforms
» Functional job titles
» State abbreviations
» City names
» Area codes
» Zip codes

Searching for Specific Job Types or Titles

To search for a specific job type, simply enter the job title into the search string. Please be sure to use double quotes around the entire job title. For example, to search for a LAN Administrator position, enter "LAN Administrator" in the search string. This will assist the search engine in providing you with accurate results.

The following is a list of job titles used by SMCI:

Business Analyst
Communications Analyst
Computer Operator

Do Not Use Commas Or Other Punctuation Except For Quotes

The search ignores all punctuation in your query (except when using Boolean searches). If your keyword contains punctuation, the best way to search for it is by including the appropriate punctuation with double quotes around the entire word. For example, search for "AS/400" instead of just AS/400. Likewise, if you wish to match a specific phrase that contains two words – such as Visual Basic - place quotes around the words in the keyword field, i.e. "Visual Basic".

All Words, Any Words And Boolean Expressions:

»   Selecting the Any of the words option means that your search will return results which contain at least one of your search keywords.
»  Selecting the All of the words option means that your search will only return results which contain each and every word in your query.
»   Selecting the Exact phrase option means that your search will return results which contains exactly the text you entered in the query text box.
»   When selecting the Boolean expression option you can spell out the Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT, or use the symbols &, | and !.
»   Always use parentheses in your Boolean searches for clarity.  Here are some examples:
unix AND (oracle OR “pl/sql”)
(html AND "windows nt") NOT (unix OR c)

Viewing All Jobs

To display all SMCI jobs in California, Arizona, and the Carolinas, click on “display all jobs”. By default, leaving the keyword field blank and clicking the “search” button will return all SMCI jobs in the database. If you have selected check boxes, radio buttons, or multiple-select bars, the results will be reduced accordingly. It may be more useful to start with a list of all of our jobs and filter out the ones that don't meet your requirements. This way you may discover more keywords and options that will refine your job search as you proceed.
